Nissan North America – Ignition Key May Collapse and Shut Off Vehicle

Report Received Date 20230216
NHTSA ID 23V093000
Consequence Summary Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective Action Owners are advised not to attach any accessories to their key and only use the key in the unfolded orientation until the remedy is available. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed March 29, 2023. A second letter will be mailed once the remedy is available, anticipated in late Summer 2023. Once the remedy is available, dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. What the owner should do?

You can check if your specific car is affected by a recall by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website. The VIN is a unique code that identifies your vehicle and can be found on your car's registration, insurance documents, or near the base of the windshield on the driver's side.

Check recalls by VIN

If the recall involves your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.
