Ford Motor Company – Steering Wheel May Turn Unintentionally

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain electronic power assist steering (EPAS) gears, sold as replacement service parts for certain 2018-2023 Mustang, 2018-2020 F-150, 2018-2021 Expedition, and 2018-2021 Navigator vehicles. The secondary steering torque sensor may not be calibrated properly, which can cause the steering wheel to turn side to side against the driver’s intentions.

Consequence Summary A steering wheel that turns unintentionally can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action Dealers will update the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) software or provide a refund, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk expected to be mailed August 12, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, Anticipated 4th Quarter 2024.
