THE LUBRICATING THERMOSTAT INTERNAL PIN EXERTS FORCE ON THE INSIDE FACE OF THE LARGE ALUMINUM HEX NUT, WEARING A HOLE IN THIS NUT. LUBRICATING OIL CAN THEN LEAK OR SPRAY UP ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
